The gallery in now closed

You'll notice that the gallery in Newtonmore has now closed and therefore I have decided that the blog relating to it doesn't need to be updated. If you'd like to know what I'm up to as an artist then you can click on the link on the right for my own blog, thanks!

Hidden message rings

It's coming up to Valentine's Day, but then there's Mothers Day in March, Father's Day later on, there's birthdays and christenings and christmas too, so I've come up with a special idea that's personal and won't break the bank and individual to whoever receives one.  Either choose to have a message stamped on the inside which won't be seen but will be forever there next to the wearer, or around the outside to be read every day.

It could be a line from a favourite song, a quote, some poetry, some names or your own special message...

Depending on the size of ring, I can stamp approximately 8 words, (or squash in more) .  A handmade, hand stamped, hand finished, completely unique sterling silver ring only costs £35 and will be presented in one of my silver and black boxes.  For gold leafing on the inside the ring will cost £40.

Valentine's day is just over 2 weeks away..........................

Newtonmore in Gaelic ring

This fabulous ring was designed and made by today's student Lydia, Baile Ur an t-Sleibh is the Gaelic for Newtonmore (I'm reliably informed). What a great idea, I promise not to copy it Lydia!

work in progress - step by step

So this is what I've been up to at the gallery while it's quiet.  Finally have got round to doing some sketches of a wee house up the glen in Newtonmore.  It's funny, every picture that I've ever done while listening or watching something, that something is always remembered when I look at the picture again, so whenever I look at this one I will always remember Fred MacCaulay talking about his favourite food!  Tomorrow I should be able to finish off the background then add some paper for colour and texture, what I'd like to know is if you like it finished off tidily or left with a few loose wires? Personally I like unfinished work, this allows the viewer gets a better understanding of what the making process is all about, I'd like to hear your views?

Today's lucky student was the only one at the friday workshop so she got one to one tuition! She went away feeling very proud of what she'd made with very little assistance from me!
